Bearded Fireworm in the Mediterranean Sea, Siracusa, Sicily
Bearded fireworm (Hermodice carunculata). A new sea temperature monitoring station has been placed at the AMP (Marine Protected Area) in Plemmirio, Siracusa, in partnership with the University of Genova to study the impact of climate change on underwater coastal biodiversity. Preliminary monitoring work indicates that also here raising temperatures are impacting local biodiversity with an increase of thermophilous species.
