In 2016, Greenpeace Seoul along with 559 plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against NSSC (Nuclear Security and Safety Commission) and demanded that NSSC’s approval on construction of the new nuclear power plant, Shin Kori 5 & 6 be canceled. January 8th 2021 is the day of the second verdict, when the court decided to stick with the first court result which is "a judicial decision after due consideration of circumstances". NSSC gave unlawful permission to the state-run Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co. to build Shin Kori 5 and 6 in a suburb of the southeastern industrial city.
