Theué Kalapalo, 37, plays football very well. For this reason, he received the nickname “Viola”, a reference to the former player who became famous at Corinthians and came to defend the Brazilian team in the 90s. Indigenous of the Kalapalo ethnic group, from Mato Grosso, this year he participates in Acampamento Terra Livre ( ATL) for the tenth time: “The camp is a very important space, where we bring demands and build proposals to take to our bases. Our biggest problems today are invasions, loggers, illegal fishing and theft of gold”. His people came to Brasília with a delegation of 80 people, from 16 different ethnic groups that inhabit the Xingu region. They left Querência (MT) and took a two-day bus trip to reach the federal capital. Viola also said that the cultural exchange that takes place at the camp is one of the most interesting things about the meeting: “The Free Land Camp is the opportunity we have to show other peoples our culture, our paintings, our ancestry. We exchange handicrafts with relatives, we play guitar together. For the youth, it is a great training center. This year we brought a rap group that does a great job and helps us take our culture further.”

The 18th Free Land Camp takes place in Brasília from April 4th to the 14th, 2022 with the "Retaking Brazil: Demarcating the Territories and Indigenizing the Politics". This is the first camp held in person in two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Held since 2004, the camp demands that Indigenous Lands be demarcated, in addition to the defense of life against the destruction agenda promoted by the Bolsonaro government.

The mobilization aims to block the anti-Indigenous agenda that looms in the National Congress and fight the Marco Temporal thesis, to be ruled in June by the Brazilian Supreme Court, possibly the most important ruling on the Indigenous People history, which will decide the future of all Indigenous Lands in Brazil.

Nossos maiores problemas hoje são as invasões, os madeireiros, a pesca ilegal e o roubo de ouro”. Seu povo veio a Brasília com uma delegação de 80 pessoas, de 16 diferentes etnias que habitam a região do Xingu. Eles saíram de Querência (MT) e levaram dois dias de viagem de ônibus para chegar à capital federal. Viola disse ainda que o intercâmbio cultural que existe no acampamento é uma das coisas mais interessantes do encontro: “O Acampamento Terra Livre é a oportunidade que temos de mostrar para outros povos nossa cultura, nossas pinturas, nossa ancestralidade. A gente troca artesanato com os parentes, tocamos violão juntos. Para a juventude, é um grande centro de formação. Este ano trouxemos um grupo de rap, que faz um ótimo trabalho e ajuda a gente a levar nossa cultura mais longe”

O 18° Acampamento Terra Livre acontece de 4 a 14 de abril em Brasília, com o tema "Retomando o Brasil: Demarcar Territórios e Aldear a Política". Este é o primeiro ATL presencial em dois anos devido à pandemia de Covid-19. O acampamento, que acontece desde 2004, traz a demanda de demarcação dos territórios como sua bandeira principal, além da defesa da vida contra a agenda de destruição promovida pelo governo Bolsonaro.

A mobilização pretende barrar a agenda antiindígena que segue em pauta no Congresso Nacional e a inconstitucionalidade da tese do Marco Temporal, que será julgada em junho no Supremo Tribunal Federal e é possivelmente o julgamento mais importante da história para os povos originários brasileiros, pois vai definir o futuro de todas as Terras Indígenas do Brasil.
