Penguin Survey in Antarctica - Clipreel
Scientists from Stony Brook University conduct a survey of penguins on Seymour Island, Dundee Island, D'Urville Island and Beak Island in Antarctica.
Also contains wildlife and scenic shots.
The scientists use a drone and machine learning to do an automated count of penguin colonies on the island. The drone counts are later compared to the manual counts complied by their colleagues. Drones are a less invasive and often faster method of counting penguin colonies.
The Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise has returned to the Antarctic Peninsula with a team of independent scientists from Stony Brook University, to conduct ground breaking research on remote penguin colonies, many of which have never before been surveyed. To investigate the impacts of the climate crisis on Antarctic penguin populations.
