Scientists from Stony Brook University launch a drone from a RHIB to fly over a penguin colony off Cockburn island, Antarctica.

The scientists use machine learning to do an automated count of penguin colonies on the island. The drone counts are later compared to the manual counts complied by their colleagues. Drones are a less invasive and often faster method of counting penguin colonies.

The Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise has returned to the Antarctic Peninsula with a team of independent scientists from Stony Brook University, to conduct ground breaking research on remote penguin colonies, many of which have never before been surveyed.
