Oil Spil in Rayong, Thailand
Workers placed boom at the beach to prevent an oil spill from reaching the shore. The leaked crude oil is expected to reach beaches in Rayong province after about 400,000 liters from under the sea pipelines, belonging to Star Petroleum Refining Public Company Limited (SPRC) leaked into the sea.
Greenpeace Thailand urges the Thai government to form an independent committee to investigate the oil pollution disaster, to urgently review the National Energy Plan in order to break free from fossil fuels, and to halt plans to expand oil and fossil gas industry, which endangers livelihoods, the natural environment, and communities who bear the brunt of environmental impacts and climate crises.
