One Year After “Fire Day” in the Amazon in Brazil
Deforestation in public forest and recently deforested areas registered by Deter (Real Time Deforestation Detection System), in Altamira, Pará state.
On April 10th, 2019, farmers around BR-163 highway were responsible for the “Fire Day”, a series of criminal forest fires. This coordinated action increased hotspots by 300% overnight in the main city in the region, Novo Progresso, Pará state. One year after that, Greenpeace flew over the region to register what happened to those areas after the “Fire Day”. In several places, forest was replaced by pasture and cattle.
