Hope Through Action Street Art Project in Turkey
Husna Cakir, a Turkish artist usually specialising in miniature paintings, paints a wall in Ulamis village, Turkey as part of a global street art project entitled Hope Through Action.
Hope Through Action is a global street art project, bringing ten large-scale murals to ten cities around the world.
This mural is in Turkey, located in Seferihisar, known as a ‘slow city’, Ulamis is a village where 2600 people live. However every weekend it is filled with people from the city, who come for its farmers market and heirloom bread.
Greenpeace Turkey collaborated with local NGO Atölye Deneme Sanat ve Ekolojik Çalışmalar Derneği, and artist Husna Cakir ,who specialises in traditional Turkish arts to bring the warm and sweet breeze of hope through art. Husna covered her painting with bales of reclaimed plastic bottles, symbolizing the plastic waste imported to Turkey from other countries. She let local people interact with the art and asked them to remove any objects disturbing them, to unveil ‘nature’s purest state.’
