Clean Up and Waste Audit in Novosibirsk, Russia
Greenpeace volunteers are sorting the collection during the action on the bank of the Ob River in Novosibirsk.
Greenpeace Russia volunteers cleaned up the coastline of the Ob River in Novosibirsk. They collected all trash on a 100-meter stretch of the coast line: plastic bottles, single-use plastic containers, cups and other garbage. 12 activists made a description of different types of plastic waste collected on the coast.
Greenpeace Russia organized a series of "plasticwatching" actions in different cities. In 2019 participants of these actions collected, counted and sorted 229,123 garbage fragments into categories. It turned out that 68.1% of them are plastic, and 31.9% — other types of waste.
96.2% of 156,125 plastic fragments are parts of disposable items and packaging.
