Greenpeace Activist Daniel Szonyi
Greenpeace activist Daniel Szonyi, Hungary.
A group of Greenpeace activists deploy a huge message beside Lake Kawaguchiko, in the shadow of Mt Fuji, reading “No Nuclear” and “Nuclear Free Tomorrow”, whilst at the same time a multinational Greenpeace alpine
team delivered messages of support and hope for the victims of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster to the summit of Mt Fuji, at Kawaguchi Lake, Japan, on Tuesday 28th February 2012.
The environmental organisation hopes that the messages will help unite the people of Japan in opposition to nuclear power, and encourage the Japanese authorities to listen to them.
The climbing team is comprised of eleven alpinists from Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA scaled the mountain.
