Marikina River Toxic Outflow Pipe Action
Greenpeace activists seal off a discharge pipe emanating from the Unilever-RFM compound in Pasig City. Greenpeace identified in a report that it discharges various toxic and persistent organic chemicals that flows directly into the Marikina River and onwards to Laguna lake. Greenpeace is urging industries to shift to clean production processes and for the speedy adoption of a pollution disclosure system, such as a Pollution Release and Transfer Register (PRTR), which institutionalizes the community's right-to-know about the toxic chemicals in their area.
