'Purple Lilac 888' Purse Seine Fishing Vessel
A helicopter pilot lands on the roof of the 'Purple Lilac 888', owned by Frabelle Fishing Corporation of the Philippines, after searching the area for free schools of tuna, Papua New Guinean waters. Fishing using this method avoids the use of fish aggregating devices, or FADs. Frabelle has committed to shifting part of their operations to the more sustainable 'free school', or 'FAD-free' fishing. Greenpeace is in the Western and Central Pacific ocean on the 'Defending Our Pacific' expedition to campaign for the establishment of a network of marine reserves and an end to overfishing.
