The community of Nakon Sri Thammarat province relies on rich but fragile natural resources, which are threatened by the proposed construction of a coal-fired power plant by Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand's (EGAT) in the area. The province is one of the country's major food producers. Nearshore fishing, shrimp farming, bird nest collecting, and rice farming are the main source of livelihood of thousands of people in the province. The community is opposing the proposed plant and Greenpeace stands in solidarity with the people's movement, calling on the Thai government to have political will and action and lead the country towards an energy revolution. The government must invest in renewable energy and put in place more energy efficiency systems.
