Greenpeace activists stage a "Mermaid Parade" to call attention to destructive fishing practices by the canned tuna industry including Chicken of the Sea with its mermaid brand label. Every single year, hundreds of thousands of marine animals, like birds, endangered sea turtles, dolphins, and sharks are killed in their quest for tuna and profit. Activists have been holding Mermaid Parades around the United States to get Chicken of the Sea and other canned tuna companies to adopt sustainable, non-destructive methods.
