Duke Energy Coal Ash Spill in North Carolina
A bulldozer moves material inside a coal ash containment pond during a cleanup process at the Dan River Steam Station in Eden. Duke Energy said that 50,000 to 82,000 tons of coal ash and up to 27 million gallons of water were released into the Dan River from the 27-acre unlined pond at the coal-fired power plant which closed in 2012.
