Dry Corn Field in the Philippines
Corn fields at Barangay Libu-o in M'Lang, province of North Cotabato are left un-harvested due to a two month dry spell coinciding with a weak El Nino. Greenpeace calls on the national and local governments to adopt and support policies and programs to help transition the country’s farming system towards a more climate-resilient ecological agriculture. Government should equip farmers with timely and localized weather information and an early warning system to enable farmers to plan well. This early information system should be coupled with programs on how farmers could plant diverse crops, raise farm animals, and develop livelihood strategies.

El Niño Documentation in the Philippines
Positioned at the front lines of climate change impacts, the Philippines is plagued by food and nutrition security concerns – a growing emergency. The worsening impacts of climate change and the unpredictability of extreme weather events, such as typhoons, El Niño events or drought, are putting unnecessary stresses on the coping mechanisms of many regions in the country.
