Fracking Protest in Aarhus
Greenpeace volunteers in Aarhus make a protest with miniature fracking towers. The protest, also happening in Copenhagen and Aalborg aims to increase pressure on the Danish politicians and Total, the French energy corporation, to stop fracking and shale gas extraction in Denmark. Total plans to start exploratory drilling at two sites in Northern Jutland and Northern Sealand with the possibility for future fracking in the area. Fracking involves pumping water, chemicals and sand at high pressure into rocks so as to break them apart and release the gas trapped in-between. Fracking can put serious risks on the Danish drinking water, our health and shale gas can damage the climate as much as coal and oil.
