Dirty Secrets of China's Flagship Coal-to-Gas Model Project
The large evaporation pools of the Datang Hexigten Qi coal-to-gas project are located deep within the grasslands of Chifeng, Inner Mongolia. Greenpeace researchers encounter a strong pungent odour in the vicinity of the pool during several site visits. Signs posted around the pool serves a stern warning to discourage people from approaching.
China’s flagship coal-to-gas pilot project is already breaking national standards on air and water pollution, according to an on-the-ground investigation by Greenpeace China.
