Maori Protest against Statoil in New Zealand
The 'Waiho Papa Moana' hikoi (protest march) against deep sea oil drilling leaves Cape Reinga. It will finish in four days time outside the NZ Petroleum Summit, held at the Sky City Conference Centre in Auckland. Maori from different tribal areas along the western length of Northland organised the hikoi to protest against Norwegian oil giant Statoil which has a permit to explore for deep sea oil off their coast. Their message to Statoil is: Go Home.
