The Rainbow Warrior New Zealand Leg of the GE-Free Trans-Tasman Tour
The Rainbow Warrior arrives in Auckland for the New Zealand leg of the GE-Free trans-Tasman Tour to stop the spread of genetically engineered soy. The ship, captained by Frans van Dijk, and crew are welcomed to Princess Wharf with a powhiri by tangata whenua, Greenpeace NZ staff and a kapa haka group from Hoani Waititi School. Banners on the ship read 'Inghams GE Feed not Wanted', 'The Future is GE Free' and 'Say No to Inghams GE Fed Chicken'. Greenpeace NZ is running a campaign for Australian poultry company Inghams to stop using GE soy feed for their chickens. Inghams imports around 50,000 tonnes of GE contaminated soy into New Zealand each year.
