Oil Spill Aftermath in the Bangladesh Sundarbans
These windfall seeds of Sundari and Gol trees should have been germinating on the banks of Poshur River in the Sundarbans, while instead they lie lifeless seventeen days after an oil spill occurred about 20km away, in a UNESCO World Heritage site, when an oil-tanker named Southern Star VII, carrying 350,000 litres of furnace oil was sunk in the river after it had been hit by a cargo vessel. The event is very threatening to the region's flora and fauna.
