Defending Our Oceans Tour - Hawaii Trash (Hawaii: 2006)
Greenpeace activists Thilo Maack, Buffy Baumann and Adam Walters sieve out the contents of the 'Yellow Thing' after a trawl in the high seas of the Central North Pacific Ocean at 25 15.4 N, 155 57.6 W. The 'Yellow Thing' is a neuston trawl for surface plankton and the associated plastic particulate debris. This is part of the Ocean Defenders Campaign in which the Greenpeace ship Esperanza MV sails to the Pacific Ocean, sometimes referred to as the North Pacific garbage patch, to document the threat that plastic poses to the environment and sea life.
