Activists Block Entrance NAM Assen

Eight Greenpeace activists have landed on the roof of the head office of Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) (Dutch Oil Company) with parachutes. Thirty activists blocked the main entrance to the building. A banner was hung from the rooftop with the lines: "Stop de verspilling" ("Stop the Waste")

Acht actievoerders van Greenpeace zijn vanmorgen met parachutes op het dak van het hoofdkantoor van de Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) in Assen geland. Dertig anderen blokkeerden de hoofdingang van het gebouw. Vanaf het dak ontrolden de actievoerders een spandoek met de tekst "Stop de verspilling'. Greenpeace wil dat de NAM afziet van de plannen om in de Waddenzee naar aardgas te boren.

Until 1994 it was prohibited to extract gas from the Wadden Sea in the Netherlands. But now NAM (50% Shell and 50% Esso), Elf Petroland and Mobil have requested permits to extract gas again.
