Trachinotus ovatus - Azores Deep Sea Life
Young and adults pompanos often swim in small groups in clear water along sandy coasts where they feed on small shrimps, crabs, mollusks and fish. Jack species lack bony plates along the lateral line. In spring they will aggregate on shallow waters to mate. They were not previously seen to be mating this early. Greenpeace is in the Azores with a team of scientists to survey and document deep sea life.
