Whaling Protest in Washington DC
Members of Greenpeace, protest against Japanese whaling, outside the Japanese Cultural Center. The Japanese Waling Commission announced that it had killed Sperm and Bryde's whales. Greenpeace wants President Clinton to request the United States Department of Commerce enforce sanctions against Japan under the Pelly Amendment to the 1967 Fisherman's Protective Act. The activists' signs read: "Japan: This is not scientific whaling" and "Japan: Can the whaling, not the whales."
