Oiled Beach in Louisiana
Crews cleaning the beach covered in oil from the Deepwater Horizon wellhead on Elmer's Island, a wildlife refuge, owned and maintained by the state of Louisiana. The BP leased Deepwater Horizon oil platform exploded April 20 and sank after burning, leaking an estimate of more than 210,000 gallons of crude oil per day from the broken pipeline to the sea.
