Rebuilding the Climate Defenders Camp
The people of Teluk Meranti together with Riau NGO grouping, Jikalahari, and Greenpeace, began rebuilding the torched Greenpeace forest protection camp on the Kampar Peninsula in Sumatra¹s Riau Province. The local community are renaming the rebuilt camp the 'Community Camp for Kampar Protection' to symbolize the community¹s spirit to protect the rich peatland forests of the Kampar Peninsula. On October 26, 2009, Greenpeace built a camp in the heart of the peatland forest which is being threaten by the destructive logging activities by the pulp and paper plantations owned by PT RAPP.
