Greenpeace activists dance the tango, dressed in traditional tango clothes but with a detail of typical prisoners caps. The action takes place in front of the Japanese Garden in Buenos Aires in support of Greenpeace Japan staff members Junichi Sato and Toru Suzuki, known as the “Tokyo Two,” who were both arrested and jailed for exposing evidence of large scale corruption with the Japanese whaling industry and our now threatened with a decade of prison time. The Tango, a celebrated form of Argentinean music, is very popular in Japan. With this action, Greenpeace asks Japan to stop the political persecution against the organization. The protest is among a series of Greenpeace events at Japanese embassies around the world today to demand a full disclosure of information on whale meat sales and contracts with the Japanese Institute of Cetacean Research (ICR), the agency in charge of the annual whale hunt.
