Protest at Fisheries Agency of Taiwan
Greenpeace East Asia campaigner Hoki Lo in conversation with Ding-rong Lin, head of the distant waters fishery unit of the Fisheries Agency of Taiwan.
On September 9th, a Greenpeace ship discovered a Taiwanese tuna longliner, Sheung De Ching no.888, fishing in the high seas of the Pacific without authorization. Greenpeace has since reported the case to the regional fisheries management organization, WCPFC (Western and Central Pacific Fishery Commission), as well as the Taiwanese Fisheries Agency. The vessel in question gained authorization to fish within less than 24 hours, and Greenpeace is urging the Taiwanese Fisheries Agency to start immediate investigation of the ship, and take real action to combat illegal fishing.
