Save the Dugongs Petition Delivery at Ministry of Defence in Japan
Greenpeace Japan delivers over 28,759 signatures from 164 countries and regions to Japan’s Ministry of Defense, as a sign of global solidarity for Okinawa’s struggle to save the last remaining Japanese dugongs. The extension of the US marine corps base at Henoko Bay (Camp Schwab) in Okinawa, is threatening the local coral reef and sea grass ecosystems. This area is the habitat of the highly endangered Japanese population of dugongs.
