Photovoltaic Installation on Shop Roof in Japan
Organic vegetables harvested by Mr. and Mrs. Okawara. They started the community shop “Esperi” in Miharu town in Fukushima prefecture, in 2013. They sell not only vegetables from their own farms but also organic fruit, vegetables, bread and snacks produced locally. They monitor the radiation level of each vegetable and put up the result with the product.
Together with a community in Fukushima, in the 5th year of the ongoing Fukushima nuclear disaster, Greenpeace launched the solar project “Solarise Fukushima” to create a solar hub, which will promote renewable energy use in Fukushima. People around Japan and the rest of the world contributed through crowd funding to install solar panels on the rooftop of the community shop, Esperi. The solar hub will be a tangible testament to the shift from nuclear to clean and reliable renewable energy. This inspiring story will help move forward solarizing not only Fukushima, but also the rest of Japan and the world.
