Launch of the Paradise Campaign for the Mediterranean in Dubrovnik
Activists from Greenpeace Central and Eastern Europe project renewable energy messages on walls of Dubrovnik, made famous as “King’s Landing” on the hit television series “Game of Thrones.” The message is in Spanish and reads: "?turismo o petróleo?" - "Tourism or Petrol?".
The activity is part of a new Greenpeace initiative called “Solar Paradise” which aims at boosting the Southern European local economies, enhancing job creation and mitigating the risks of climate change by promoting a shift in the energy paradigm of those countries.
While the Mediterranean area has the most solar potential in the whole Europe, the local governments in Spain, Italy, Greece and Croatia are planning to invest in dirty energy (fossil fuels, coal power plants and oil drilling) thus endangering the pristine nature, sustainable development and tourism, the region's most powerful economic sector.
