Naoto Kan, the Prime Minister of Japan at the time of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident which occurred on March 11, 2011. Mr Kan is onboard the Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior as it sails passed the destroyed nuclear plant, on the eve of the fifth anniversary of the nuclear disaster. Greenpeace has launched an underwater investigation into the marine impacts of radioactive contamination resulting from the 2011 nuclear disaster on the Pacific Ocean. The former Prime Minister declared that the nuclear accident at Fukushima Daiichi is not over, including major threats from contaminated water from the site; restated his opposition to nuclear power in Japan, and called for its energy policy in Japan to be based on renewable energy.
