Sows in the small, narrow gestation cages at factory farms for pigs in the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Greenpeace publicizes the situation of the unlawful practice of keeping sows in cages that are not large enough for the animals to lie down, stretch or turn around without obstructing the neighbouring sows. Greenepeace therefore demands larger cages.
In a lying position the sows’ feet are often squashed under the neighboring sow.
