Mariana Disaster: One Year after the Collapse of the Dam
Over the ruins of a school in Bento Rodrigues district, Greenpeace activists and around one thousand people from MAB (Brazilian Movement of Dam-Affected People) ask for justice for the 20 people who lost their lives and for thousands affected by the toxic mud created by Samarco, Vale and BHP mining companies. One year after Fundão barrage collapsed, destroying the Doce River basin, the companies haven’t done much to repair all the damage they’ve caused.
In the week preceeding the activity, independent studies presented by Greenpeace at the Rio de Gente Seminar showed how the toxic waste mud still cause great social and ambiental impacts on Doce River and all those who depend on it.
