Greenpeace Russia Team Attacked by Armed Masked Men - News Access (Clean)
On the night of the 8th of September, the Greenpeace Russia firefighting team were attacked in their camp in the South of Russia by eight armed men. A Greenpeace Russia staff member, Michael Kreindlin, has suffered a broken nose and a concussion whilst a volunteer from the Trans-Baikal Territory, Andrey Polomoshnov, likely sustained a rib fracture. They were administered medical assistance. The attackers had sliced through tents, damaged vehicles, threw a stun grenade in one of the cars, and stole valuable equipment.
A day before this attack team was blocked by cossacks. Police arrived and resolve the situation.
The Greenpeace Russia team had arrived in the Krasnodar region on the 5th of September to help local authorities and environmental activists to fight against wildfires, as the authorities failed to prevent or limit the wildfires in the area. The purpose of the Greenpeace Russia expedition is the prevention of illegal open burning in valuable wetlands and coastal salt lakes, which suffer from fires every year.
