Protect the Antarctic Petition Delivery in Paris
A few days before the meeting of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), Greenpeace France symbolically hands over a petition signed by more than two millions of people to Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister of Foreign Affairs, asking protection for the Antarctic Ocean.
The CCAMLR commission, composed of representatives of 24 states, including France and the European Union, will meet from 22 October to decide on the creation of a protected area in Antarctica.
The Greenpeace petition calls for the creation of the largest protected area on Earth: a 1.8 million square kilometre Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary.
