Jennifer Morgan Meets Chungnam Governor and Co-Chair of Green Growth Committee in Seoul
Jennifer had a meeting with Chungnam Governor, Mr. Seung-jo Yang, and Co-Chair of Green Growth Committee, Mr. Jeong-wook Kim, to identify the current challenges and further cooperation for the key objective of Chungnam (South Chungcheong) province: early shut down of coal-fired power plants in the province by 2020.
Chungnam is the most coal-focused province in Korea with 30 out of 60 units of coal plants domestically but became the first province in Asia to have joined the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) in 2018. Since then, Chungnam has shown its great efforts to shut down the coal plants in the province with strong willingness from its governor. It has tried to fulfill his pledge to shorten coal plant's life span from 30 years to 25 years so that it will be able to shut down 14 plants by 2026.
