Church near Factory Farm in Lescout, France
The church of the main square in the small centre of Lescout, a village of 700 people affected by the presence of a factory farm in its immediate vicinity. The farm is the only industrial facility for animal agriculture of the area. It currently farms 185,000 hens. First built in the 1980s, it steadily grew and was expanded in 2016 to the modern and highly industrial facility it is now. The inhabitants of Lescout have reported frequent smells and noise pollution to Greenpeace France. At the time the photo was taken, some inhabitants expressed towards Greenpeace France that they suspected the presence of harmful substances in the environment. Complaints of symptoms like airways irritation and gastric problems reported by locals were common at the time of the visit of Greenpeace France.

Hen Factory Farm in France
The egg laying hen factory farm of Lescout, Gallès, located a few hundred meters away from the village, is the only industrial facility for animal agriculture of the area and is currently farming 185,000 hens. First built in the 1980s, it steadily grew and was expanded in 2016 to the modern and highly industrial facility it is today. The owner is planning to expand more as a building permit has been requested for a new building. The village of Lescout has only 700 inhabitants. The quantity of hens in the factory farm outnumbers the population of the village by 264 times.
