River near Factory Farm in Lescout, France
Near the village of Lescout there is a big hen factory farm, currently farming 185,000 hens. The factory farm affecting the village of Lescout is separated from its nearest houses on the north side by a line of trees and Le Sor, a small river. On the other side of the river, the factory farm is just a few hundred meters away. It is the only industrial facility for animal agriculture of the area and is currently farming 185,000 hens. The extractor fans are located on the side of the farm facing the river and Lescout. This means that, when the wind and the heat are at their strongest, the noise and the smell coming from the facility hit the whole village. Some of the inhabitants of Lescout have reported to Greenpeace France that they have created a WhatsApp group to record the waves of the smell that on some days come several times per day. The quantity of hens in the factory farm outnumbers the population of the small village by 264 times.
