Action near Russian Orca Prison in Nahodka
Greenpeace activists conducted action near the "whale jail" in Srednyaya Bay. The reason is the latest statements by the authorities that they want to release killer whales not in their natural habitat, but directly in Srednyaya Bay at the end of May or early June.
Activists with inflatable kayaks, unfolded a 300 sq meters banner reading “FREE the Whales” and two hand-banners: “Release, not throw away” and “No whale prisons” about 150 meters from the enclosure where 10 killer whales and 87 white whales are kept. Greenpeace and independent scientists oppose such a mad decision of the authorities.
10 orcas and 87 belugas were illegally caught in 2018 in Okhotsk sea near the east coast of Russia, to sell to Chinese theme parks and transported 1500 km to a "whale jail" near Nahodka. Greenpeace demands release of all whales to be in the same areas where they were caught, after rehabilitation and re-adaptation.
