Man Living near Factory Farm in Baarup, Denmark
Baarup is a small town with around 50 inhabitants, 60 kilometer west of Copenhagen. Here former occupational therapist Eckhard Klattkowsky, aged 79, is taking a walk in front of the dominant pig factory farm, which is situated only 80 meters away from the house owned by him and his wife, the former chief economist Bente Hansen. The heavy smell from the stables and the smoke from the furnace is a big problem for the elderly couple. Shortly before this photo was taken, the pig farmer got permission to expand the stables even more. When Eckhard and Bente moved here 32 years ago there was only a small farm next to their house with just a few animals. Now it has developed into a factory farm.
