The industrial pig farm in the small village Baarup 60 kilometers west of Copenhagen is located right in front of the property of Eckhard Klattkowsky, aged 79, and Bente Hansen, aged 72. Here Bente is collecting her bedsheets from the hanger in the garden. According to her, she can only very rarely dry her laundry outside. Often, an awful smell is hanging in the air.
Bente said: “When we moved here 32 years ago, the farm was very small with only a few animals. Now it is a factory farm with thousands of animals, and the smell, noise and dust from the stables drive us crazy.”
