Devastation Caused by Heavy Rain in West Japan
An aerial view of Oda river and Mami town area, devastated by floods.
The rapid increase in water levels in the Oda river and Takahashi river caused the so called “backward phenomenon” which occurs when the flow of a tributary rises too high and breaches its banks because it gets blocked by its mainstream filled with far more water than usual from heavy rains upstream. Mabi Kurashiki city, Okayama Prefecture.
