Activists in Bialowieza Forest
More than 70 activists from 12 European countries blocked heavy machines that cut old-growth forest in UNESCO protected zone in the Białowieża Forest in Poland. After a few hours, machine blockers were forcefully taken out by the forest guards but climbers stayed on the trees and kept the blockade for 8 days, to ensure no more trees are cut or removed from the site, no matter the cold and rain.
This way they protested against illegal logging taking place in the last lowland natural forest in Europe that is being logged against decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union, advice from UNESCO and scientists from Poland and abroad.
