No PFC Action in Venice
Greenpeace activists take action in Venice, together with local movements like Climate Defense Unit, No Pfas and concerned mothers, to ask the local authorities to clean up the Miteni site, an Italian chemical company. Despite recent data showing that soil and groundwater in the factory’s site are still polluting the area, clean up operations are not yet put in place.
The Miteni factory is polluting with PFC (Poly and Per-Fluorinated Chemicals) a huge area with around one million inhabitants. PFCs, used to make clothing waterproof, are now present in the drinking water and in the blood of the residents. They are very dangerous to human health and persistent in the environment.
Around 80 people participate in the protest, arriving by boats and inflatables at the City council offices on Canal Grande to make their demands. A big banner is displayed reading “Bonifica Subito” (Clean up Now).
