Underwater Shot of Bigeye Snappers in southern Thailand
A school of Bigeye snappers (Lutjanus lutjanus) swims among fields of Sea whips (Ellisella sp.) under the greenish water in the sea of Thepha, Songkhla province, Thailand. Despite the water's greenish hues, caused by sedimentation from the Thepha River, coral reefs are to be found which acts as critical habitats for marine life.

Biodiversity in Southern Thailand
The rich biodiversity in Thepha district, Songkhla province, in southern Thailand, might be threatened by a plan to build a 2,200-megawatt coal power plant in the area. The project, led by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), is being opposed by local communities as they believe it would affect their health and the environment of the region.
Apart from its natural beauty, the mangrove forest of Thepha also contributes to the biological richness of this area, as well as the livelihood of local fishing communities.
