Smoke in a Field in Thailand
Smoke is seen in a field in Mae Chaem district, Chiang Mai Province in northern Thailand. Haze caused by the massive burning of agriculture waste is an annual problem in the country’s north. The practice causes severe pollution of air, land and water, on a local, as well as on a regional scale.
Greenpeace is calling upon the Pollution Control Department to impose stricter standards on particulate matter in the country’s Air Quality Index and to monitor and enforce preventive measures on PM 2.5 in order to protect public health.
