Clyde River Supreme Court of Canada Ruling on Seismic Blasting
Amnesty International Canada's Alex Neve, Greenpeace Canada's Farrah Khan, former mayor and community leader from Clyde River Jerry Natanine, Clyde River's legal council Nader Hasan, and Verna McGregor from the Algonquin community of Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg hug each other after a press conference on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
The community of Clyde River, Nunavut, received a favourable ruling from Canada's highest court on their case to uphold their rights as Indigenous Peoples and protect their home, the Arctic, from the impacts of seismic blasting.
Greenpeace Canada was invited to support Clyde River's legal battle and has been working closely with the community since July 2014. Clyde River's former mayor and community leader, Jerry Natanine, travelled to Ottawa, Canada's capital city, to receive the Supreme Court's ruling and host a press conference.
