Peace Action in Port of Bilbao, Spain
More than 20 Greenpeace activists from five different countries have stopped for several hours in the Port of Bilbao (Spain) a shipment bound for the countries of the Saudi-led coalition involved in the war in Yemen. Greenpeace activists sought, with this NVDA, to prevent these weapons from being used against civilians.
This NVDA is part of the project Killing Secrets which aims to increase transparency over the Spanish arms trade in order to 1.- make sure that Spanish authorities implement properly the international and Spanish law on this matter by denying "illicit" export authorizations and 2.- accountability is delivered when it is not happening.
Greenpeace blames the Spanish government for authorising illicit shipments of war material when there is evidence that these arms could be used to violate international humanitarian law and international human rights law and demands its cessation.
